Shocking to Read What You Went Through

Thought I would email you as opposed to the Face Book thing.

So I finished your book. I thought it was great. I’m not an expert on writing, but I do read quite a bit and often non-fiction and biographies. I thought it to be very well written. I liked how you went back and forth every chapter between the time prior to your husband “coming out” and the time after “coming out”. It had a good flow. Tough to do that I bet? So from a technical standpoint I thought it to be an easy read.

As for the story, Carol, it was quite shocking to read what you went through. Shocking because I know you, and even after 30 years still consider you a friend. I’m sure there are more people who have gone through what you and your family went through than one would expect. So on that basis the subject matter didn’t really cause the shock affect. Rather, it was because it happened to a friend. I must say that the characteristics and values that I recall you having 30 years ago came through in the book and even during our very brief reunion the other day. Loyal, family first, kind, unselfish, positive, smart etc.

I’m sure a common question most readers would ask is how is it she did not know her husband was gay? I may be wrong but I suspect you probably did know or at least suspected, but that your family first values dominated your thoughts and actions. Just a hunch.

In the end you seem to be content with how things resolved and you are now happy with your life. You deserve that.

Oh, and by the way, you mentioned you were hard on your Dad in the book. You told it as it was so I doubt he would say you were. I am a father of two girls and I can totally relate to how he reacted. Nobody messes with our girls!!!
