I Know Your Other Viewers Would Love Hearing Carol K Murray’s Inspirational Story!!!
Hi Ellen and Ellen’s Awesome Crew!
I watch your show pretty much every day at 4:00pm, after I’ve gone hiking. You never fail to make me laugh, cry, then laugh again. Thank you!
Today’s hike turned out to be unique. Bella (my dog) began to play with a puppy named Vito. The owner of the other dog and I got to talking, as proud dog owners do. She told me an amazing story.
She mentioned that she had just written a book titled “All These Years”. When I inquired further, she told me that she tells the true story of discovering that her husband and soul mate of 30 years was gay, and of how they explained to their two nearly teen-aged boys the changes that had to take place within their family.
Upon reading more into her book, and talking to her about her boys, and her remarkable relationship with her ex-husband, I’m blown away by the grace and strength with which the entire family faced what could have turned into a very adverse situation.
I think it’s important that people with stories like hers, that progress (because it’s not over yet) have to be shared with the world!
She and her entire family are brave and are heroes in my eyes, especially during these times when bullying and social slurring is so sensitive an issue.
Her charisma, and glowing optimism caught my attention as soon as we began talking today, and I immediately thought of you.
Her name is Carol K. Murray, and I know your viewers would love hearing her inspirational story as much as I did.
Ellen, you are one of a kind, thnx 4 being u!
PLEASE INVITE CAROL TO BE ON YOUR SHOW!!!
Imagine this: Receiving a call from McNally Robinson Booksellers. Winnipeg’s largest independent book store. They’d agreed to add my book, All These Years, to their inventory of local authors. And wanted me to help organize the official book launch. I hung up the telephone, jumped up and down, grinning from ear to ear.
Now what? Reality set in. It was all happening quickly. I brainstormed about what my first book launch would look like. What would I say? What excerpts would I read peaking enough interest in my story that would send everyone rushing to buy one? Should it be serious? Funny? Whose testimonial would I talk about? Would anyone show up? I felt that all too familiar pit in my stomach.
I contacted McNally’s events coordinator, and we got to work. I provided my bio and some pictures. John created posters, a blurb in their E-Newsletter, a banner ad for the Winnipeg Free Press newspaper, and an invitation. I e-mailed invites to everyone I knew. Created an event on Face Book. Tweeted to all of my followers, announcing my first book launch. I asked my friends to pass it along. Practiced my ‘welcome’ speech. Read and re-read the various parts of the book I’d chosen to share. I crossed my fingers. My mom, dad, and sister would be there, so I knew there’d be at least three in the audience.
We arrived early. I was excited. My hands shaking. There were people wandering around, holding my book. Some were already sitting in the rows of chairs, waiting. Some friends. Some strangers. All there to listen to me. How exhilarating! I took a deep breath. Let it out slowly. A sense of calm came over me. I’d already been interviewed on live television. Twice. Been interviewed on two radio shows. I was ready to share my story, and launch my book.
It was time. David, the store manager introduced me. I stood at the podium. All eyes on me. I took one more deep breath. Let it out slowly. Carter’s advice swirled through my head, ‘connect with your audience.’ I began. I remember glancing around the room, hearing laughter. Seeing women wiping their faces with tissues. I ended showing my Help Me Tell Ellen Part 3 video. The crowd clapped. I gave out bookmarks, suggesting ways they could help me tell Ellen DeGeneres about my story. I signed books.
And just like that, it was over. A huge success. Moments I’ll cherish forever.
The following week, I received an e-mail from McNally Robinson Booksellers telling me that my book was the third highest selling title that week at McNally’s!

We all watch Ellen – even Jason my Golden Retriever. I made a series of videos, with the help of Jason, and my son, who patiently filmed us for what seemed like endless hours. Creating You Tube Videos is a lot harder than it looks, especially when working with animals. Jason has about a thirty minute attention span. Curtis and I discovered this after about Take #39. At the end of the two minute video, I looked beside me at Jason, and he’d fallen asleep sitting up.
In Part 1 of this series of #HELPMETELLELLEN YouTube Videos, Jason watches The Ellen Show, while I ask everyone to get on board with my #HelpmetellEllen You Tube video campaign. Please SHARE this video with your Face Book friends, & Tweet it to all of your followers. Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9J3m9mOi2k
In Part 2, #HELPMETELLELLEN – Ellen DeGeneres Needs To Know About All These Years, Jason continues watching The Ellen Show, and this time I appeal to Ellen, suggesting that if she’s watching this video, then the first part of my dream has come true. My #HelpmetellEllen video campaign worked. Well, watch the video and you’ll see the rest:
*****Here’s an even better plan: Please just e-mail Ellen directly:
Ask her to please watch the videos and invite Carol K Murray to be a guest on her show and share this remarkable story with all of her viewers. That’ll work!!

I just finished reading your book. What a wonderful gift!! Easy to read and entertaining, while sharing a tremendously important message: We all have choice in how we face adversity!! Life, and what it throws at us, isn’t going to change. It’s how we choose to relate to life’s curves that define us.
I simply couldn’t put it down!! Some was familiarity. Some was relatedness. Some was inspiration. Some was empathy. And, all of it was perfect!!
Your journey is what you make it, and I believe you’ve chosen wisely and effectively. You have more drive and talent in your little pinkie than most have in their entire body. Your willingness to share those gifts will positively affect many you come in contact with, as your journey continues.
I urge you to continue with velocity!!! Share and share again! You have a lot to give!
I will encourage my partner Sally, to read it, and give a different perspective. I know she will.
Your giving is more important than you know, and I hope and pray that it will touch many!!
I obtained my book from you on March 1st, 2012, and read half of the book that same day. I was glued to it. By Sunday evening, I had read it all. It brought tears to my eyes. Some tears happiness, some envy, and also some of sadness!
Since reading your book, I have a better understanding of the strong and courageous Carol, the lady, the author and the friend that I am truly proud and privileged to know. It was a fun book, as well as real life drama; some say life is tough, but you are tougher!! The book is on route to Seattle with my friends, with a solemn promise to return it to me.
A feeling of joy is how I describe the ending, not just for you but all of the people (Well almost all!!)
Thank-you from my heart.
Your family is a one to behold. Loving and understanding. From my own experiences, kind, warm, and supportive, and throughout the book, that message is a constant.
With love & appreciation for a great piece of work.
Carol’s book is a very intimate look at a family dealing with life changing events. Carol’s life as she knew it was over, and not by her or Mark’s choice. What I mean by that is, Mark didn’t choose to be gay. Carol selflessly put her family first. While pursuing a new life, Carol built her confidence and self esteem. It took courage and a sense of humour to go on all those dates!
Fast forward to present day: attendees at their family gatherings: Mark and his partner, Carol and Carter, Mark and Carol’s sons, Cameron and Curtis, and often Mark’s mom and step-dad, along with Carter’s two sons. Incredible.
Reading Carol’s private struggles is heart wrenching. A must read for anyone needing inspiration. Especially for anyone who has a gay/lesbian family member or friend. .. Who doesn’t??
